Bhubaneswar: Internet services were restored in Cuttack on Tuesday evening following a 48-hour suspension imposed in the wake of recent unrest in parts of the city. The restoration has brought much-needed relief to residents, students, and businesses affected by the disruption.
Commissionerate police had suspended internet connectivity as a precautionary measure after reports of clashes emerged from certain localities. The Odisha Home Department had extended the ban for an additional 24 hours — from 7 pm on October 6 to 7 pm on October 7 — citing the risk of digital platforms being misused to spread rumours or incite violence.
Earlier on Tuesday, the 36-hour curfew imposed in the city was also lifted. Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissioner S. Dev Datta Singh confirmed the return of normalcy, stating that law and order have been brought under control.
“The situation is being closely monitored and adequate police forces have been deployed at sensitive locations. No untoward incidents were reported during the curfew period,” said Commissioner Singh.
