Cuttack Durga Puja Clash

Bhubaneswar: In the wake of the violent clash during the Durga Puja idol immersion procession at Cuttack’s Dargha Bazaar on the night of October 3, the Commissionerate Police of Bhubaneswar–Cuttack on Thursday released two mobile numbers for the public to report rumours or false information.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) of Cuttack urged citizens not to believe or share unverified reports concerning ‘communal riots’ on social media.

“If you receive any suspicious messages or information, please report them immediately at 7328077324 or 8480513007. This initiative reflects your awareness and responsibility and will help maintain peace and order in society,” the DCP’s social media post read.

The police also arrested three more persons in connection with the clash, raising the total arrests in the case to nine.

The incident occurred late on October 3 when two groups exchanged stone-pelting during the immersion procession. The clash resulted in injuries to four people, including Cuttack DCP Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo. The violence caused panic in the area, damaged vehicles, and disrupted the immersion schedule, leaving over 40 idols stranded for nearly three hours.
