Bargarh: In a significant breakthrough in the fight against illegal drug trafficking, Bargarh police on Saturday arrested six persons and seized a large quantity of narcotic substances under the ongoing ‘Operation Prahar.’
The accused persons were identified as Umesh Sahoo (28) of Colonypada village, Madan Boria (35) of Kotapada village, Sanda Seth (27) of Malpada village, Husen of Colonypada village, Sadachandra Sahoo of Banmal village, and Harekrushna (35) of Temri village. All the accused fall under the jurisdiction of Paikmal Police Station in Bargarh district.
According to police, the arrests were made following a tip-off received by the Paikmal Police Station. Acting swiftly, the Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) and his team intercepted a white Xylo vehicle near the Nishani Gudi Temple along the Biju Expressway, which connects Padampur and Paikmal. The vehicle was reportedly being escorted by two persons on a Royal Enfield motorcycle and a scooter.
During the search operation, police seized 2,598 Pentazocine injections, a restricted pharmaceutical drug often misused as a narcotic. Along with the contraband, police also recovered the white Xylo car, the Royal Enfield motorcycle, the scooter, and six mobile phones from the possession of the accused.
“This is a major success for the Bargarh police under ‘Operation Prahar.’ Based on credible intelligence, our team was able to intercept the vehicle and prevent the illegal transportation of narcotic substances. Preliminary interrogation suggests that the supply chain originates from Bhubaneswar. Further investigation is underway,” said Padampur SDPO Pandab Sabar while briefing the media.
All six accused will be forwarded to court later today.
