Jeypore: In a shocking incident, two bodies were recovered from the premises of the Kanak Durga temple in Gopabandhu Nagar in Jeypore town of Koraput on Wednesday.
The deceased have been identified as Raju Machha, a transgender and servitor of the temple, and Samara Jani, a mason from Jayanagar.
According to reports, the two were in a love affair, which led them to take the extreme step. They were found hanging in the temple premises with a red saree. The police were informed, and Jeypore Town police rushed to the scene to recover the bodies.
The bodies were sent for autopsy at the District Headquarters Hospital in Jeypore. Jeypore Town Police have registered two cases of unnatural death and launched an investigation into the incident. Preliminary findings suggest that the couple died by suicide.
“We have started an investigation and a scientific team has also conducted a probe. From what we’ve gathered so far, it appears that the two were in a love relationship,” said Jeypore SDPO Partha Kashyap. Further investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
