Bhubaneswar: In a major crackdown on narcotics smuggling, the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate Police on Friday arrested three persons, including a notorious woman drug dealer, and seized brown sugar worth around ₹60 lakh from their possession.
According to Police Commissioner S. Dev Datta Singh, the Special Crime Unit conducted the operation based on a tip-off and intercepted the accused near Harirajpur Chhak under Jatni police station limits. The team recovered 555 grams of brown sugar during the raid.
The arrested accused have been identified as Anita Paramguru (41), Rajendra Kumar Sahu (32), and Shiba Prasad Dash (28). Besides the narcotics, police also seized two SUVs, ₹5.10 lakh in cash, five mobile phones, and gold ornaments, taking the estimated value of the total seizure to around ₹1 crore.
Police officials said the operation marks a significant step in the Commissionerate’s continued efforts to curb the illegal drug trade in the twin cities. “The confiscation of a substantial quantity of narcotics and the arrest of key individuals is a major breakthrough in our mission to dismantle criminal syndicates and protect the community,” said a senior officer.
The arrested individuals will be produced before the court, while investigators continue to trace the supply network, financial links, and possible larger criminal connections.
