Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Saturday announced October 20 as an additional holiday for Diwali. Earlier, the state had announced October 21 as a holiday for the festival of lights.
The Revenue & Disaster Management Department of the Odisha government has issued a notification (RDM‑Reg‑MISC‑0013‑2024‑39041) announcing an additional public holiday on October 20, 2025, to mark Diwali.
All state government offices and magistrate courts (executive) throughout Odisha, except those in Nuapada district, will remain closed on Oct 20, 2025.
Nuapada district has been specifically exempted from the holiday, so its government offices and magistrate courts will continue functioning as usual on Oct 20, unlike the rest of the state.
The notification issued by the Revenue and Disaster Management Department today made it clear that the fourth Saturday, October 25, has been rescheduled as a working day in order to accommodate the extra holiday on Oct 20.
The announcement follows the Mukti Mandap Pandit Sabha’s recommendation to celebrate Diwali on October 20 rather than October 21.
