Bhubaneswar: A low‑pressure system formed over the southeast Bay of Bengal at 5:30 am today, following the lingering cyclonic circulation from Thursday. The system is tracking west‑northwest and is likely to intensify further in the next 24 hours, according to the India Meteorological department.
“Under the influence of an upper air cyclonic circulation over southeast Bay of Bengal & adjoining south Andaman Sea, a low-pressure area has formed over southeast Bay of Bengal at 0530 hrs IST of today, the 24th October 2025. It is likely to move west-northwestwards and become more marked during next 24 hours ”, read the IMD bulletin
This development has also been confirmed by weather scientist Uma Shankar Das.
Taking to his X handle, he wrote: “Active cyclonic circulation from yesterday gave rise to a low‑pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal at 5:30 am today. It’s tracking west‑northwest and could intensify further within 24 hours.”
Going by the weather prediction, the low-pressure system is expected to deepen into a depression around October 26.
As per IMD prediction, southern districts are likely to experience thunderstorms, while the rest of the state stays relatively dry on 25 October. Rainfall should taper off from 29 October onward, after which conditions will remain largely unchanged.
