Bhubaneswar: A well-marked low-pressure area continues to persist over Gangetic West Bengal and the adjoining areas of north coastal Odisha and the northwest Bay of Bengal as of 5:30 am today, informed the India Meteorological Department.
According to the latest meteorological update, the system is likely to move west-northwestwards across north Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal during the next 24 hours.
The weather system is expected to bring heavy rainfall to several parts of the state. Western Odisha is likely to face very heavy rain today under its influence.
Going by IMD’s forecast for today, a Red Warning has been issued for Bargada district due to the threat of extremely heavy rainfall. Additionally, an Orange Warning is in force for 10 districts, while a Yellow Warning covers 19 other districts across Odisha.Coastal areas may also experience thunderstorms accompanied by winds of 30–40 kmph.
Residents, especially in western and northern Odisha, have been advised to remain cautious and stay updated with official weather bulletins.
