Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government is on high alert as Cyclone Montha is expected to bring heavy rainfall and strong winds to the state from October 27 to 29. Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari has reviewed preparations for the cyclone and assured that the state is fully prepared to tackle any eventuality.

According to the Revenue Minister, the depression over the Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm by October 27. The cyclone is expected to affect 15 districts in Odisha, particularly the southern and coastal regions.

“Even if Cyclone Montha changes its direction, the government is prepared. The state government has alerted the departments of Water Resources, Panchayati Raj, Agriculture, and Energy, and is taking all necessary precautions to ensure public safety. Based on past experiences, we have taken all necessary steps. If people get stranded in waterlogged areas, the government will provide them with food. We are prioritizing the safety of people’s lives. The impact of the cyclone will be felt in Odisha on October 28 and 29”, maintained Revenue Minister.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea from tomorrow onwards, and those already at sea have been asked to return immediately, informed Pujari.

“We are fully prepared to tackle the cyclone. We have taken all necessary precautions to ensure public safety. Our priority is to save lives and prevent damage to property,” said Pujari.

According to Pujati, the government has also made arrangements for relief centers and evacuation in vulnerable areas. The public is advised to stay away from the seashore and follow weather updates and cyclone warnings issued by the IMD.
