Sundargarh: Train services were severely affected on Wednesday morning after around 10 wagons of a freight train derailed on the Rourkela–Ranchi main railway line in Sundargarh district.
According to reports, the wagons went off the tracks between Bano and Kanarawa railway stations around 10 a.m., with several of them overturning due to the impact.
Following the derailment, railway teams from Hatia and Bondamunda were rushed to the spot to begin restoration work. Senior officers and engineers from the Ranchi Railway Division’s engineering and operations departments also reached the site to assess the situation.
The exact cause of the derailment is yet to be determined, officials said. Meanwhile, train services on the busy Rourkela–Ranchi route have been suspended, causing major disruption. The Maurya Express (Gorakhpur–Sambalpur) was among the affected trains and was halted near Kanarawa station.
Fortunately, no casualties or injuries have been reported so far. Efforts are underway to clear the tracks and restore normal operations at the earliest.
