Malkangiri: In a major crackdown on illegal narcotics, Malkangiri police seized 1,660 kilograms of ganja, valued at around Rs 17 crore, after raiding three locations in the district within 24 hours. Three persons were also arrested in connection with the seizures.
According to police, the raids were conducted simultaneously at Orkel, Chitrakonda, and Kalimela. At Orkel, police seized 770.100 kg of ganja (Case No. 295/25) and arrested three ganja peddlers, along with three mobile phones recovered from their possession.
In Chitrakonda, 640 kg of ganja was seized, while Kalimela police recovered 250 kg (Case No. 257/25). The total seized quantity of 1,660 kg is estimated to have a market value of around Rs 17 crore.
“Operations against ganja smuggling will continue. I commend SDPO Malkangiri, SDPO Chitrakonda, and all officers involved for this successful operation,” said Malkangiri SP Vinodh Patil H while speaking to the media.
Under the NDPS Act, from January 1 to October 28, 2025, a total of 109 cases were registered in Malkangiri district.
During this period, police seized 28.897 tonnes of ganja, 31 two-wheelers, 13 four-wheelers, 4 other vehicles, and Rs 60,720 in cash. 96 persons, including 95 males and 1 female, were arrested in connection with these cases.
