Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police in Bhubaneswar has achieved a remarkable feat with a conviction being secured in just 33 days in a theft case registered at Nayapalli Police Station in Bhubaneswar.
The case, which was registered on September 27, 2025, under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), involved the prompt arrest of the accused, recovery of stolen property, and swift trial process. The police submitted the charge sheet in just four days, showcasing excellent coordination between the Investigating Officer and Public Prosecutor.
According to case history, the complainant Bikram Kishore Mohapatra, a resident of Nayapalli, had reported the theft of his mobile phone which was pickpocketed while he was purchasing vegetables at Gandhi Market. The police swung into action, arresting the accused Prasanta Bhoi alias Akhu and recovering the stolen mobile the very next day.
The charge-sheet was submitted within four days, and the timely presence of witnesses ensured a swift trial. The Additional Public Prosecutor presented the case effectively before the Court, resulting in conviction. The accused was sentenced to one year of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of ₹1,000.
