Bhubaneswar: Roads in Odisha will soon feature QR codes containing detailed information about the road and the contractor responsible for its construction.
This initiative, announced by Works Minister Prithviraj Harichandan, aims to enhance transparency, accountability, and public access to project details.
Minister Harichandan said that by scanning the QR code, citizens will be able to access complete details of the road — including the contractor’s name, project specifications, and construction data — ensuring greater public oversight of infrastructure works.
In another environment-friendly move, the Minister announced that the Works Department (PWD) will allocate an additional 1% of the total construction cost of each road project for tree plantation and maintenance. The initiative aims to develop green corridors across the state, enhancing roadside greenery and contributing to climate resilience.
“Tree plantation will be carried out during the construction of all new state highways, district main roads, and other roads under the PWD,” the Minister added. The plantation drive will include native species and will be maintained with dedicated funds from the allocated budget.
The twin initiatives — technological transparency and environmental sustainability — mark a significant step towards smart, eco-friendly infrastructure development in Odisha.
