Bhubaneswar: The Chandaka police have cracked the mystery surrounding the recovery of a human skeleton from the Chandaka forest on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.

Investigations have revealed that the 70-year-old man was murdered due to previous enmity. The accused has now been arrested. Police have also conducted a crime scene recreation as part of the probe.

The deceased has been identified as Balaram Deogam, a resident of Pitagadia Patna village.

According to reports, Balaram had gone to the nearby forest several days ago and never returned home. Despite his prolonged absence, no missing complaint had been lodged with the police.

On Friday, locals discovered a human skull and skeletal remains partially buried in the soil in the Pitagadia forest under Chandaka police station limits. They immediately alerted the forest department and police. A scientific team, along with Chandaka police, reached the site, recovered the remains, and initiated an investigation.

During the course of the inquiry, police uncovered evidence pointing to murder motivated by old enmity. Acting swiftly, they apprehended the accused and recreated the crime scene on Saturday to piece together the sequence of events leading to the crime.

Further investigation into the case is underway.
