Boudh: In a swift operation, the Forest Department arrested two poachers who were caught butchering a wild boar for its meat inside a reserve forest in Boudh district.
The raid, conducted on Thursday evening, led to the seizure of the animal carcass, weapons, and 34 kilograms of meat, officials said.
According to Forest department officials, the incident took place around 7:30 PM near Mundeshwar Reserve Forest, close to Raniganj under Madhapur Range of Harabhanga Block.
Acting on a tip-off, a forest team led by Madhapur Range Officer Ashik Digal raided the spot and apprehended the two hunters red-handed.
The accused have been identified as Kapindra Majhi and Satya Behera, both residents of Raniganj village under Purunakatak police station limits.
The officials also seized two axes and two knives used in the act.
The wild boar meat was sent for post-mortem examination and later buried as per forest protocol. A case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Wildlife Protection Act, and the accused have been produced before court, confirmed Range Officer Digal.
