Puri: The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has suspended three sevayats (servitors) for misconduct that violated the discipline and sanctity of Srimandir, officials said on Friday.
According to an official release, Suara Badu Sevayat Narayan Panda and Khuntia Sevayat Rajaram Khuntia have been suspended for two months under Section 21(A) of the Shri Jagannath Temple Act, 1955. The action follows their involvement in illegally collecting money from pilgrims near Bahar Katha last month and engaging in fights among themselves over the collected amount, which disrupted order and dignity within the temple premises.
Similarly, Mahasuar Sevayat Bena Mahasuar has been suspended for two months for instigating the use of vanaspati ghee inside the temple premises, the SJTA stated.
The temple administration has cautioned the three sevayats that any attempt—directly or indirectly—to create disorder during the suspension period will invite an extension of the suspension and even more stringent disciplinary measures.
SJTA Chief Administrator Dr. Arabinda Kumar Padhee reiterated that no sevayat or individual will be spared if found obstructing the rituals of the Lord or the smooth darshan of devotees and pilgrims. He urged all servitors to cooperate in maintaining the discipline, decorum, and sanctity of Srimandir.
