Bhubaneswar: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) president and former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Sunday appealed to the people of Nuapada to support the party’s candidate, Snehangini Chhuria, in the upcoming by-election scheduled for November 11.

In a video message shared on his social media platform X, Patnaik thanked the voters of Khariar and Komana for their enthusiastic participation during his campaign in the Nuapada constituency. He described the turnout as “massive” and expressed gratitude to the people for their support.

Patnaik said Snehangini Chhuria was chosen as the BJD candidate for her ability and commitment to serve the people of Nuapada.

“I have instructed her to always work for and support the people of the constituency,” he said.

Criticising the BJP government in Odisha, Patnaik alleged that crimes against women have risen since the party assumed power and that members of Mission Shakti (the state’s women empowerment programme) are facing difficulties. He also claimed that the BJP has stalled the Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana, adversely affecting public welfare in the state.

“The defeat of this anti-people BJP government will begin from the soil of Nuapada itself,” Patnaik asserted, urging all voters to back the BJD candidate in the by-election. He added that he would continue to work for the people of Odisha “till my last breath.”
