Bhubaneswar: Odisha police have been placed on high alert following Monday evening’s deadly car blast near the Red Fort in Delhi, but the state remains calm with no alarming situation, said Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Sanjay Kumar.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, ADGP Kumar said, “Yesterday evening’s car blast in Delhi was an unfortunate incident. While Odisha generally maintains vigilance, we have increased security measures at religious sites, crowded areas, and other sensitive locations. Sufficient police forces have been deployed across the state to ensure public safety, and at present, no alarming situation has been reported in Odisha.”
He urged citizens to remain cautious and report any suspicious objects or persons immediately.
“Do not approach anything suspicious. Police personnel are deployed at all key locations. Our primary objective is to prevent anti-social and anti-national activities, including potential terrorist acts, from entering the state,” Kumar added.
The DGP has instructed all Commissioners of Police and Deputy Commissioners to maintain heightened alertness in sensitive areas. Kumar emphasised that all necessary steps are being taken to protect the public and there is no reason for alarm.
The Delhi explosion occurred at around 6:52 pm near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort. A slow-moving Hyundai i20 reportedly stopped at a red light before suddenly exploding. The car was completely destroyed and the fire spread to several nearby vehicles, causing extensive damage. At least 10 people were killed, and over two dozen others sustained injuries.
Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha confirmed that the vehicle had occupants at the time of the explosion. Union Home Minister Amit Shah identified the car as a Hyundai i20, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured strict action against the perpetrators, stating that Indian agencies will thoroughly investigate the incident and ensure those responsible are held accountable.
Odisha police have reinforced security across the state, particularly at crowded public spaces and religious sites, to prevent any untoward incidents.
The ADGP reiterated that the situation remains under control and urged the public to cooperate with police.
