Bhubaneswar: A former Revenue Inspector (RI) was convicted and sentenced to three years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 20,000 in a bribery case.
Gajendra Digal, who was dismissed from service in 2021, was found guilty of demanding and taking a bribe of Rs. 15,000 from a complainant to demarcate his land.
This is not Digal’s first conviction; he was previously sentenced to 2 years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 10,000/- in another bribery case in 2021. The Vigilance Department had charge-sheeted Digal in connection with the case, and the Special Judge, Vigilance, Phulbani, delivered the verdict.
Digal’s dismissal from service was a result of his previous conviction, and this latest sentence marks a strong stance against corruption in the public sector.
