Balangir: In yet another major crackdown on the illegal cough syrup trade, the Balangir Town Police have seized a large quantity of cough syrup bottles during transit near Sudpada. Acting on reliable intelligence, police intercepted a suspect and recovered around 300 bottles of cough syrup from a single bag.
“The seized consignment is estimated to be worth over ₹1 lakh,” said Balangir SDPO Saroj Upadhyay, who briefed the media about the operation.
“The arrested accused has been identified as Suraj Bhoi, a resident of Kansaripada in Balangir town. Along with the cough syrup bottles, the police also seized ₹200 in cash and a mobile phone from his possession,” Upadhyay added.
Balangir has recently emerged as a hotspot for illegal cough syrup trading, with repeated seizures pointing to a larger network operating in the area. Police have intensified their investigation to trace the source of the consignment and identify others who may be involved in the racket.
“We are probing all possible angles,” said SDPO Upadhyay.
