Bhubaneswar: The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) has sparked a controversy once again after planning to organise an untimely Rath Yatra. As per the schedule, the ISKCON is set to roll out the chariots of the holy trinity on November 23 at Taiwan’s Ximending MRT Exit-6 locality.
However, the announcement has triggered strong reactions among devotees and followers of Jagannath culture, including the Odia community.
Devotees and Jagannath Culture lovers and experts have expressed disappointment, perceiving ISKCON’s frequent organisation of similar events globally and outside traditional contexts as inappropriate. The event, promoted online, invites devotees to participate in cultural performances, Kirtans, Yoga sessions, and other activities.
ISKCON, however, has not issued an official statement to the concerns raised by the devotees.
