Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Excise Department seized 465 grams of brown sugar worth approximately Rs 50 lakh and arrested three persons near Satya Nagar overbridge in the capital city on Tuesday.
The arrested persons were identified as Hasim Khan, a resident of Dumduma area, Rabi Barik, and Subrat Kumar Parida, a resident of Satya Nagar’s Durga Mandap slum area.
According to Excise Superintendent of Police (SP) Debashish Patel, the group operated discreetly, choosing crowded residential neighborhoods and gully routes to deliver the contraband.
“Our Bhubaneswar Excise Department team analysed the previous cases and found that some other people were also involved. We targeted and tracked them, and today we were successful in apprehending the accused, Rabi Barik, Hasim Khan, and Subrat Kumar Parida, near Satya Nagar overbridge while they were dealing with the brown sugar. The Bhubaneswar Excise Department seized 465 grams of brown sugar and arrested all three individuals, and two bikes were also seized,” said SP Patel.
The accused were arrested and two bikes were also seized.
