Bhubaneswar: A cyclonic circulation has formed over the central Malacca Strait, extending up to 5.8 km above sea level. This may lead to a low-pressure area forming over the southeast Bay of Bengal around November 22, likely intensifying into a depression by November 24, according to the India Meteorological Department.
Weather scientist Uma Shankar Das shared this update on social media platform X, stating that a cyclonic circulation has formed over the central part of the Malacca Strait, extending up to 5.8 km above sea level.
“Cyclonic circulation formed over central Malacca Strait, extending up to 5.8 km above sea level. It is likely to form a low-pressure area over southeast Bay of Bengal around November 22, intensifying into a depression by November 24. It is likely to intensify further into the South-West Bay of Bengal while moving west-north-westwards during the next 48 hours”, read his post.
Under its influence, Odisha is likely to experience heavy rainfall for four days, with the coastal and southern regions expected to receive the most significant rainfall. Rain is predicted in various parts of the state until November 25.
