Sambalpur: In a major push to accelerate rural housing delivery, the Odisha government has set a strict December-end deadline for completing 1,88,263 pucca houses under the Antyodaya Gruha Yojana.
The Panchayati Raj & Drinking Water Department has issued firm instructions to all District Collectors, directing them to intensify monitoring and finish the pending construction within the next few weeks.
As per the department’s assessment, district-wise targets have been clearly defined. These include 16,742 houses in Bhadrak, 11,131 in Nuapada, 10,949 in Nabarangpur, 14,193 in Koraput, 7,757 in Balangir, and 8,410 in Balasore, among several others. In the current financial year, 1,14,357 houses have already been completed, but construction work on 3,26,582 houses is still pending across the state.
Panchayati Raj Minister Rabi Narayan Naik said that officials have been instructed to treat the matter with utmost seriousness and expedite the process without delay.
The BJP government has committed to ensuring that every eligible citizen receives a pucca house under its flagship Antyodaya Gruha Yojana. The scheme involves an expenditure of ₹7,550 crore and aims to provide 2,25,000 pucca houses within three years.
Officials say the December deadline is crucial for achieving yearly milestones and maintaining momentum toward the state’s long-term housing goals.
