Bhubaneswar: The Commerce & Transport Department reviewed the Integrated Road Safety Dashboard to strengthen coordinated and data-driven road safety governance in the State. The review focused on the dashboard’s structure, data integration and inter-departmental usability to support informed decision-making, coordinated action and effective monitoring of road safety initiatives.

The dashboard has been developed by RBG Labs of IIT Madras, which earlier conceptualised the Integrated Road Accident Database (iRAD), the national platform supporting data-led road safety interventions.

The State Transport Authority (STA) guided the development of the dashboard through an extensive consultative process involving Police, Road Owning Agencies, Health Department, National Informatics Centre (NIC) and other stakeholders, ensuring alignment with operational requirements and shared ownership across departments.

Principal Secretary, Commerce & Transport Usha Padhee emphasised that the effectiveness of digital platforms depends on their adoption and regular use. She noted that emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, offer significant opportunities to further strengthen road safety governance.

Transport Commissioner Amitabh Thakur highlighted that the unified dashboard integrates datasets currently spread across departments, enabling improved coordination, monitoring and review of road safety actions.

Prof. Venkatesh Balasubramanian, Technical Consultant to the State Transport Authority from IIT Madras, stated that the application has been designed with a human-centric and intuitive interface to ensure ease of use for officials and citizens.

The dashboard will support systematic analysis of crash data, tracking of road safety interventions and structured review of outcomes, marking an important step towards building an integrated, transparent and accountable road safety ecosystem in Odisha.
