Cuttack: The Orissa High Court Bar Association organised a seminar on strategies to reduce the cost and delay of cases, ensuring justice for the common man, at Shaheed Bhawan, Cuttack, today. The event aimed to discuss practical strategies to make justice more accessible and affordable for the common man.

Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Surya Kant, inaugurated the seminar, highlighting Odisha’s rich heritage and the importance of such events. He expressed concern over delayed justice, stating that it affects the financial status and dignity of people, and emphasised the need to reduce pressure on the common man, remove uncertainty, and protect their dignity.

Justice Surya Kant suggested mediation as a means to resolve disputes, reducing the number of cases and enabling the common man to access justice. He identified two major obstacles to justice: the money spent on litigation and the time spent on it.

Chief Justice of Orissa High Court, Justice Harish Tandon, emphasised the judiciary’s crucial role in providing justice, while senior lawyers and Advocate General Pitambar Acharya and Sitansu Mohan Dwivedi stressed the importance of speedy disposal of cases.

The seminar honoured senior lawyers with over 50 years of experience, winners and participants of the All-India Judges Badminton Championship, and lawyer Sanjay Kumar Mahapatra for his outstanding contribution to law.

President of the Odisha High Court Bar Association, Manoj Mishra, presided over the program, while Secretary Abhijit Patnaik introduced the guests and highlighted the Bar Association’s initiatives. Vice President Siddhartha Das proposed the vote of thanks.

The event was attended by many eminent personalities, including senior lawyers, who emphasised making justice accessible and affordable for all.
