Balasore: The Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Balasore has transferred Kupari forest official Naresh Singh to Jaleswar following allegations of negligence in his duties.
The transfer comes after a wild elephant entered a residential area in Khaira block, causing damage and claiming a life two days ago.
Locals had complained to DFO Prafulla Mallick and Soro Range Ranger Harihar Majhi about Singh’s alleged negligence, prompting the forest department to investigate. The inquiry led to Singh’s transfer today.
It is pertinent to mention that a few days back, a wild elephant had strayed into the villages of Notapada and Bateśwar villages under Khaira block in Balasore district in search of food, causing widespread panic and destruction.
The elephant damaged trees and chased locals, resulting in the death of Surendra Das from Purbapada village.
The incident sparked concerns about the forest department’s negligence, with locals blaming the Forest department authorities for failing to prevent the elephant’s entry into the village.
