Sundargarh: The bodies of a young man and a woman were recovered from the Brahmani River near Biratola Temple under Chandiposh police limits in Sundargarh district on Monday. Preliminary information suggests that both the deceased were residents of Rourkela.
According to sources, the incident came to light after local residents noticed the bodies in the river and immediately alerted the police and fire services. Following the alert, rescue teams rushed to the spot and launched a search and recovery operation. After several hours of effort, the bodies were retrieved from the river.
The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death. While locals suspect that the duo may have died by suicide after jumping into the river, others have raised concerns about the possibility of foul play. However, police officials said it would be premature to draw conclusions at this stage.
Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation to determine the sequence of events leading to the drowning. Officials stated that they are examining all possible angles and awaiting the autopsy report for further clarity.
Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
