Bhubaneswar: After the inhumane train travel of Odisha wrestlers went viral on social media, the State Government today informed that it is preparing an SOP with the Railway Authorities to prevent such incidents in future.
The Odisha School and Mass Education Department has clarified that 18 young wrestlers, who participated in the National U-17 Boys & Girls Wrestling Championship in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh, did not have confirmed return tickets even though the government had booked 3-tier AC class tickets for their journey. The TTE allotted 10 berths at Hinjili, near Kolkata, the department stated.
At least 18 athletes from Odisha, who set out to represent their state at the 69th National School Wrestling Championship in Uttar Pradesh, were allegedly forced to travel in inhumane conditions, sitting near a train toilet.
In a viral video, the athletes are seen crammed outside the toilet along with their luggage. The athletes reportedly did not have confirmed tickets. The athletes’ distressing journey, captured in a viral video, shows them crammed near a toilet with luggage, sparking allegations of mismanagement.
