Puri: The Excise Department on Thursday foiled a planned brown sugar trade and seized contraband worth approximately ₹23 lakh in Puri, arresting a peddler in the process.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the Excise Department officials conducted a raid near Jaipur Chhak under Satyabadi police station limits and arrested Abdul Raheman, a brown sugar peddler. The accused was later forwarded to court.
During the raid, officials recovered 227 grams of brown sugar from Abdul’s possession.
According to the Excise Department, the contraband was concealed in a polythene bag inside the dickey of his scooter, which he had allegedly brought for the purpose of illegal trade.
The arrested individual has been identified as a resident of the Rajabazar area of Jatni.
Excise officials stated that the operation was carried out by a special team following credible intelligence, leading to the successful interception and seizure. They further reiterated that such anti-narcotics raid operations will continue in the future as part of the department’s ongoing drive against drug trafficking.
