Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s political leadership on Thursday paid rich tributes to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on his 101st birth anniversary, commemorated nationwide as Good Governance Day.
Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Leader of the Opposition Naveen Patnaik remembered Vajpayee as a towering statesman whose legacy of inclusive and people-centric governance continues to inspire the nation.
Chief Minister Majhi, accompanied by members of his cabinet, offered floral tributes at the statue of Atal Bihari Vajpayee on the AIIMS Bhubaneswar campus. In a statement, Majhi described Vajpayee as a passionate nationalist, an exemplar of good governance and a key architect of modern India.
“A prominent patriot and humanitarian leader, Atal ji’s personality was unparalleled. He was the true architect of transforming politics into national policy. Every decision he took resonated with national development and public welfare,” the Chief Minister said in a post on X in Odia.
Governor Kambhampati, in his message on X, said Vajpayee’s humility, wisdom and steadfast commitment to public service left an indelible mark on the country.
“His vision of transparent, efficient and people-centric governance continues to guide our collective efforts towards inclusive and sustainable development. I pay respectful tribute to his inspiring legacy,” the Governor stated.
Leader of the Opposition Naveen Patnaik, who served as a Union minister in Vajpayee’s cabinet, remembered him as a “towering statesman and exemplary parliamentarian.”
“Humble tributes to former prime minister #AtalBihariVajpayee ji on his birth anniversary. Atal ji was a luminous poet-orator whose ideals and unwavering commitment to India’s progress and inclusive nation-building will continue to inspire generations,” Patnaik wrote on X.
Several programmes and commemorative events were organised across Odisha to mark the birth anniversary of Vajpayee, who was born on December 25, 1924, and served as India’s Prime Minister three times between 1996 and 2004.
