Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s tableau will roll down Kartavya Path in New Delhi during the Republic Day parade in 2026, with the Union Ministry of Defence approving the state government’s proposal for participation in the national samaroh on January 26.
According to reports, the Centre has cleared the tableaux of 17 states and Union Territories, including Odisha, for the Republic Day parade 2026. The tableaux will be showcased before the nation at Kartavya Path as part of the annual celebrations marking India’s Republic Day.
The Odisha government is set to present the state’s rich cultural heritage and traditional legacy through its tableau. The Union Ministry of Defence has asked the Chief Secretaries of the selected states and UTs to ensure that the tableaux are fully prepared and ready by January 19, 2026, the reports added.
The approval marks a significant turnaround for Odisha, as the state’s proposal for the Republic Day parade 2025 had earlier been rejected by the Centre. Last year, the Odisha government had planned to showcase Kandhamal textiles and Maniabandha sarees in its tableau, but the proposal did not receive clearance from the central selection committee.
However, despite the rejection for the parade, the Union Government had permitted Odisha to display its tableau during Bharat Parva 2025 in New Delhi, providing the state an alternative national platform to highlight its cultural traditions.
The clearance for 2026 is being seen as an opportunity for Odisha to once again bring its cultural identity to the forefront during one of the country’s most prestigious national events.
