Bhubaneswar: More than 1,000 LPG cylinders have been supplied to over 200 community kitchens in flood-affected Ganjam district over the past four days through a coordinated effort by ORMAS, the district administration and Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), officials said on Tuesday.
The initiative, undertaken under ORMAS’s ‘Shaktigaon’ programme, aims to ensure uninterrupted cooking operations at community kitchens serving freshly cooked meals to thousands of people affected by the floods.
The kitchens are being operated by block administrations across 10 blocks and urban local bodies in the district. They are spread across villages and block headquarters, where local volunteers and community groups are preparing and serving hot, hygienic meals to affected families.
ORMAS has leveraged its extensive network of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) to assess the LPG requirements of different locations and coordinate the supply of cylinders according to local needs, officials said.
IOCL has supported the initiative by mobilising and supplying LPG cylinders, helping community kitchens continue their operations without disruption.
The ‘Shaktigaon’ initiative has emerged as an important component of the district’s flood relief efforts, ensuring that affected families have access to freshly cooked meals during the ongoing crisis.
The initiative also highlights coordination among government agencies, public sector undertakings and community groups in maintaining essential services during natural disasters.
