Bhubaneswar: Bargarh Dhanu Jatra, the largest open air theatre of the world, came to an end on Saturday evening following the killing of demon king Kansa. Heavy crowd was witnessed at the Kansa’s royal palace to witness Lord Krishna slay demon king Kansa on the last day of the 11-day extravaganza.
The festival concluded after the king collapsed on the resplendent pandal of his Ranga Shabha, marking Lord Krishna’s triumph and ending the 11-day reenactment of mythological tales. The recent 2025-2026 edition wrapped up in early January 2026, following its start in late December 2025, with grand finales showing Kansa’s defeat
During the 11-day festival, Chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi attended the event at Kansa’s Rang Mahal as the royal guest.
The Bargarh town town, which transformed into the mythical Mathura Nagari for the 11-day extravaganza, witnessed a grand spectacle. CM was accorded a royal welcome and taken to the demon king Kansa’s palace, the Ranga Mahal, on a majestic elephant ride. On the occassion , the CM had announced series of welfare projects for Bargarh.
Bargarh town had turned into Mathura and the nearby Ambapali into Gopapur as the Dhanu Yatra recreates episodes from the life of Lord Krishna. The festival draws visitors from across the country for its unique theatrical portrayal of mythological tales in an open-air setting.
