IMD Sounds Yellow Alert For Dense Fog, Visibility To Remain Low Across Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday issued a yellow warning for dense fog in several districts of Odisha, warning of poor visibility conditions during early morning hours over the next 24 to 48 hours.

According to the Midday Weather Bulletin issued by the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, dense fog is very likely to occur at isolated pockets in districts such as Kandhamal, Koraput, Boudh, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Gajapati, Ganjam, Bolangir and Cuttack till the morning of January 6. Authorities have advised commuters and motorists to exercise caution, particularly on highways and rural roads, due to significantly reduced visibility.

The weather office observed dense to very dense fog at one or two places in Boudh, Bolangir, Koraput and Kandhamal districts, while shallow to moderate fog prevailed across parts of Jajpur, Gajapati, Kalahandi, Sonepur, Ganjam, Mayurbhanj, Sambalpur and Sundargarh. Despite the foggy conditions, dry weather has continued to dominate across the state, with no major weather system influencing Odisha at present.

Temperature levels across Odisha showed a mixed trend, with minimum temperatures dropping by around 2 to 4 degrees Celsius at isolated places, especially in interior districts. Jharsuguda recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 8.8 degrees Celsius, while Bargarh registered the highest maximum temperature at 29.8 degrees Celsius. The IMD has indicated that night temperatures are likely to fall further over the next four days before stabilising.

For Bhubaneswar and its surrounding areas, dense fog is likely to prevail during early morning hours over the next 24 hours, with the maximum and minimum temperatures expected to hover around 27 degrees Celsius and 16 degrees Celsius respectively. High humidity levels are contributing to the persistence of foggy conditions.

The IMD has also issued an advisory for farmers, cautioning that dense fog may affect early morning agricultural operations in several districts. Meanwhile, no weather warning has been issued for fishermen along the Odisha coast, as sea conditions are expected to remain calm over the next five days.
