Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has made a significant move to boost farmers’ income by establishing a market linkage for Apple Ber from Dhamnagar Block in Bhadrak district to Angul and Dhenkanal markets.
This initiative has resulted in a 25% higher price realization for farmers, by the efforts of the Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment and the Directorate of Horticulture.
The project, implemented under the Promotion and Stabilization of Farmer Producer Organizations (PSFPO), has procured 1 Metric Ton of premium Apple Ber varieties like Ball Sundari, Kashmir Sundari, and Thai Green.
Golden Agro Fed Farmers Producer Company Ltd. played a crucial role in aggregating and trading these varieties, ensuring better prices for farmers and reducing their dependence on intermediaries.
This market-led intervention has strengthened the Apple Ber value chain, empowering farmers with renewed confidence and improved livelihoods. It’s a significant step towards Odisha’s goal of farmer-centric, sustainable, and inclusive agricultural growth.
