Kendrapara: In a shocking incident stemming from an old rivalry, a man allegedly attacked his neighbour and his mother with acid in the Pattamundai area of Kendrapara district, leaving both victims critically injured. The horrific incident took place in Bachara village under the jurisdiction of Pattamundai Adarsha Police Station.

According to reports, the accused has been identified as Bijay Sahu, while the victims are Rabindra Sahu and his mother, residents of the same village. The two families had been embroiled in a long-standing dispute over house construction. On Monday, the disagreement escalated into a heated argument and physical altercation.

During the confrontation, Bijay Sahu allegedly lost his temper and suddenly hurled acid at Rabindra Sahu. Rabindra’s mother, who rushed in to protect her son, also fell victim to the acid attack. The accused is further alleged to have chased the injured mother and son with a sword, intensifying the panic in the area.

Both victims sustained severe burn injuries. Hearing their screams, villagers rushed to the spot and rescued them. They were initially admitted to the Pattamundai Sub-Divisional Health Centre. However, due to the critical nature of their injuries, doctors later referred them to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for advanced treatment.

Following the incident, Pattamundai police reached the spot and launched an investigation. The main accused, Bijay Sahu, has been detained for questioning. Police are collecting further evidence and recording statements of witnesses.

The brutal attack over a minor house construction dispute has sent shockwaves through Bachara village, raising serious concerns over rising violence stemming from personal disputes.
