Bhubaneswar: Sudarsan Pattnaik, a celebrated sand artist, has crafted a breathtaking sand art of a turtle at Besant Beach, highlighting the devastating impact of plastic pollution on marine life.
Taking to his X account, he wrote: “When plastic enters the sea, life suffers. My sand art at Besant Beach speaks for the voiceless.”
Pattnaik’s sand art showcases the turtles’ struggle, with plastic bottles and debris trapped inside its body, emphasizing the urgent need to reduce plastic waste.
This isn’t the first time Pattnaik has used his art to raise environmental awareness; he’s created similar works.
He had earlier created a 55 ft long, 30 ft wide sand sculpture of a turtle using 30 tonnes of sand and colour sand, carrying the message ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’. This theme, the focal point of 2018, urges collective action against plastic pollution, a major environmental challenge.
Pattnaik’s efforts have garnered praise from environmentalists and netizens alike, who appreciate his unique approach to spreading awareness about plastic pollution.
His artwork serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of protecting marine ecosystems and reducing plastic waste.
