Bhubaneswar: The Opposition Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Thursday suspended two sitting Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) from the party with immediate effect, citing alleged anti-party activities.
The decision was taken by BJD president and former Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, who issued an official order announcing the suspensions.
The MLAs suspended from the party are Arvind Mohapatra, the legislator from Patkura constituency in Kendrapara district, and Sanatan Mahakud, the MLA from Champua constituency in Keonjhar district.
According to the party order, the disciplinary action was initiated due to their alleged involvement in activities deemed contrary to party interests.
Arvind Mohapatra is the son of former Odisha minister Bijoy Mohapatra, while Sanatan Mahakud has been representing the Champua Assembly constituency.
Meanwhile, BJD spokesperson and media coordinator Lenin Mohanty has said the party, under the leadership of president Naveen Patnaik, follows strict constitutional discipline and takes decisive action against violations.
He added that MLAs Arvind Mohapatra and Sanatan Mahakud breached party guidelines and, after due process, were suspended with immediate effect. Mohanty said the decision has been welcomed by party workers across Odisha.
