Court Reserves Verdict On Jatra Star Piyush Tripathy’s Performances

Bhubaneswar: The fate of popular Odia jatra (opera) artist Piyush Tripathy remains uncertain as the Bhubaneswar Civil Judge Court on Thursday reserved its judgment in a contract dispute that has temporarily stopped him from performing on any jatra stage.

The case was filed by the Surya Mandir Opera troupe, alleging that Piyush breached a prior agreement by joining another opera party. After hearing arguments from both sides for nearly two hours, the court reserved its order, which is expected to be delivered on Friday. Until then, the stay on Piyush’s stage performances will continue.

Piyush Tripathy has denied having any contract with Surya Mandir Opera and stated that he legally signed a five-year agreement with Singhbahini Opera troupe, starting performances from January 5. However, following a petition by Surya Mandir Opera, the court on January 6 directed that he should not perform with any opera troupe.

Since receiving the court notice, Piyush has stayed away from all jatra stages. He appeared in court through his lawyer on January 12 and presented his side.

If the court allows him to perform on Friday, he is expected to return to the stage immediately. If not, he may approach a higher court for relief.
