Bhubaneswar: A critically injured elephant succumbed to its injuries at the Kapilash Elephant Treatment Centre in Dhenkanal while undergoing treatment.
According to reports, the elephant had allegedly consumed an explosive, causing severe damage to its mouth and tongue. The elephant was found in a critical condition near Baluakata village in Anugul district’s Bantala forest range.
When its condition deteriorated, the animal had been shifted to the centre in Airavat with the help of a vehicle specially designed for elephant rescue operations.
. A Rapid Response Team and medical staff accompanied the elephant during its relocation from Satkosia. A team of veterinary experts from Kapilash, Angul, and Satkosia had been treating the injured elephant at the Kapilash Elephant Treatment Centre. Unfortunately, it died due to severe injuries despite continuous efforts by the medical teams.
It is suspected that poachers had allegedly set a trap with the explosive-laden food to hunt wild animals, severely injuring the elephant’s mouth.
