Sundargarh: Sundargarh town in Odisha is gradually returning to normalcy after a violent clash between two groups at Regent Market area over a rumour related to beef possession which left 12 people injured, including four police personnel.
According to reports, educational institutions remained closed today, and internet services were suspended for 24 hours to prevent further escalation. However, vehicular transport was normal, with some buses plying on roads.
Meanwhile, senior police officials, including Western Range DIG Brijesh Kumar Rai and Sundargarh Superintendent of Police AmritPal Kaur, have appealed to the public to remain calm and cooperate with the administration to restore normalcy. Adequate police forces have also been deployed at major squares to prevent untoward incidents.
According to sources, the clash reportedly erupted after a petty quarrel and soon escalated, with both groups allegedly pelting stones at each other. Some individuals were also reported to have used swords during the confrontation, creating panic in the area.
