Bargarh: Odisha Culture Minister Suryabanshi Suraj on Monday paid rich tributes to legendary freedom fighter and social reformer Maa Parbati Giri during his visit to Samlaipadar village in Bargarh district, her birthplace.
Staying in the village, the minister visited the school where Maa Parbati Giri had begun her education and spent time interacting with young students. Describing the moment as deeply emotional, Suraj said that reconnecting with the roots of such a towering humanitarian figure was both humbling and inspiring.
Later in the day, the minister visited Maa Parbati Giri’s ancestral home and unveiled a statue in the premises of the old age home established in her name. He also interacted with the elderly inmates of the institution, exchanging heartfelt thoughts and seeking their blessings.
“Maa Parbati Giri’s life of service and compassion, and the great tradition of humanity she upheld, will continue to be a source of strength and inspiration for all of us,” the minister said.
Bargarh MLA Ashwini Kumar Sarangi, Atabira MLA Nihar Mahanand, Bijepur MLA Sanat Kumar Gadatia, along with other senior leaders and local representatives, were present during the programme.
Fondly remembered as the “Mother Teresa of Western Odisha,” Maa Parbati Giri was a revered freedom fighter and social reformer who dedicated her life to education, social service and humanitarian work, leaving behind an enduring legacy of compassion and selfless service.
