Sundargarh: A tragic industrial accident at a cement factory in Rajgangpur of Sundargarh district claimed the life of a young worker on Tuesday, triggering tension and protests outside the factory premises.
According to reports, the incident occurred around 1 PM in the stock yard area of the Dalmia Cement Bharat Limited factory. The worker was engaged in duties near the end stopper of the internal rail track when he was allegedly crushed under the rear wagon of a goods train operating within the factory premises.
The deceased has been identified as Chandra Minj (25), a resident of the Bhikapada area under Kutunia Panchayat in Rajgangpur.
Following the incident, Minj’s body was shifted to the Rourkela mortuary for post-mortem examination. However, the situation escalated after the deceased’s family members and villagers gathered in front of the main gate of the factory, demanding compensation and accountability.
As tension mounted, police forces were deployed in large numbers to prevent any untoward incident and to maintain law and order at the site.
Notably, no official statement has been issued by the Dalmia Cement Bharat Limited authorities regarding the circumstances of the accident or relief measures so far.
The deceased’s family members have continued their sit-in protest at the factory gate, pressing for immediate compensation and action in connection with the incident.
