Bargarh: Two young men were killed and another critically injured following a violent group clash near the Hatapada Sai Temple in Bargarh on Thursday evening. The incident has triggered tension in the area, with police stepping up vigil.
The deceased have been identified as Pradeep Luha (24) of College Road and Suraj Barik (24) of Gobindapali. A third person, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, is currently undergoing treatment at Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), Burla, and is stated to be in critical condition.
According to reports, the violence erupted after an argument broke out between two groups near the temple area on Thursday evening. The dispute soon escalated into a full-fledged group clash, during which sharp weapons, reportedly bhujali, were used.
All three injured persons were initially rushed to Bargarh District Headquarters Hospital. Pradeep Luha succumbed to his injuries late at night while undergoing treatment. Given the seriousness of their condition, the other two were referred to VIMSAR, Burla for advanced medical care. However, Suraj Barik later succumbed to his injuries at VIMSAR.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident to ascertain the exact cause of the clash and identify those involved. Security has been tightened in the area to prevent any further escalation, while efforts are on to restore normalcy.
