Malkangiri: In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, Malkangiri police on Monday busted a hashish oil (liquid ganja) manufacturing unit in the forest area of Barpadar Gram Panchayat under Chitrakonda police station.
Four persons were arrested in connection with the case, including two interstate traffickers from Andhra Pradesh. Police seized 2 kg of hashish oil, worth approximately Rs 25 lakh and 30.1 kg of ganja during the operation.
According to Malkangiri SP Vinodh Patil H, the market price of the hashish oil is estimated at Rs 12.5 lakh per kg.
“The operation was conducted under Chitrakonda police station case no 40/2026. We are intensifying enforcement against ganja and hashish oil, and similar operations will continue in the coming months,” he said while briefing the media.
The police also recovered machinery used in the production of hashish oil, including an iron machine with a cylindrical processing container, a pressure cooker, an iron compressor, a gas burner fitted with pipe and cylinder, and several plastic drums.
SP Patil appealed to the residents of Malkangiri to assist the police in dismantling the drug network, providing a helpline number — 9438916972 — for sharing information.
Further investigation is underway to trace both the forward and backward linkages of the interstate network involved in the operation.
