Bhubaneswar: The 74th State Police Athletic Championship concluded at the Reserve Police Ground in Cuttack, Buxi Bazar, on Tuesday. Director General of Police Y B Khurania graced the closing ceremony as the chief guest, receiving a salute in a parade and presenting awards to top sportspersons.
In his speech, Khurania advised players to excel and boost Odisha Police’s reputation, highlighting sports’ role in teaching discipline, self-control, and teamwork. A total of 502 players, including 75 women, from 36 police teams participated.
DGP Khurania awarded Constable Abhishek Dalbehera of Berhampur as the fastest male athlete, Banita Lakra of Commissionerate, Bhubaneswar A Team as the fastest female athlete, Constable Sudhansu Nayak of 5th IR Battalion as the international marathon runner and best marathon runner, Constable Ansuman Rayaguru of Koraput district as the best decathlon athlete, Constable Ashok Dandasena of 8th SIRBN in 10,000m and 5000m races, Havildar Bighnaraj Miridia of OSAP 6th Battalion Cuttack as the best male athlete, Constable Sabita Topo of Sundargarh district as the best female athlete, Constable Anjuman Rayaguru of Keonjhar district as the emerging athlete, and Keonjhar district as the best district team.
Sundargarh district excelled overall. Rourkela district won the women’s team champion trophy, and 6th Battalion, Cuttack, won the men’s team champion. 14 sportspersons set new records in various events.
Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Sanjay Kumar welcomed guests, and DCP (Cuttack) Khilari Rishikesh Dyandeo proposed the vote of thanks. Senior police officers, media, and public representatives attended the event.
