Berhampur: Odisha Police on Wednesday arrested a 40-year-old man from Andhra Pradesh for allegedly defrauding a Hyderabad-based company engaged in Aadhaar card generation work in Ganjam district of ₹46 lakh.
The accused has been identified as Satyanarayana Seela alias Shiva, a resident of Gudivada in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh. He was serving as the Ganjam district head of the firm that had been awarded the contract for generating Aadhaar cards in the district.
According to police, Seela was apprehended from his rented accommodation at Tulasi Nagar under Berhampur Town police station limits. The arrest was made following a complaint lodged by the Hyderabad-based company.
Berhampur Superintendent of Police Saravana Vivek M said the company accused Seela of misappropriating funds amounting to ₹46 lakh and failing to clear financial liabilities despite repeated reminders through emails as well as virtual and physical meetings.
Acting on the allegations, the company had earlier placed him under suspension, the SP added. Police said further investigation into the matter is underway.
