Bhubaneswar: An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of the Excise Department was arrested today on charges of love, cheating, and fraud. Surendra Pradhan, currently posted at Athamallik Excise Police Station in Angul district, was nabbed by Berhampur Cyber Police.
According to reports, Pradhan, who worked at Berhampur Excise Intelligence Office for three years, met a young woman on Instagram and promised her marriage, gaining her trust. He obtained intimate photos of the victim and repeatedly demanded money, extorting Rs. 40,000 through PhonePe.
Pradhan demanded more money, threatening her to make the photo viral. The victim filed a complaint with Berhampur Cyber Police Station. A case was registered, and Pradhan was arrested today. After interrogation and scientific investigation, evidence was found, and he was produced in court.
The police investigation revealed Pradhan’s modus operandi, and he is likely to face severe punishment for his crimes.
