Chhatrapur: Preparations for the upcoming Census 2027 gathered momentum in Ganjam district as a training and pre-preparation meeting was held at the Rushikulya Conference Hall in Chhatrapur under the chairmanship of Nikhil Pavan Kalyan, Director of the State Census Directorate. The meeting focused on ensuring the smooth conduct of the first phase of the census, scheduled to be held from April 16 to May 15 this year.
Addressing the field-level officers, Kalyan emphasized the importance of meticulous groundwork for the nationwide exercise. He informed that house listing and self-enumeration will be undertaken during the first two weeks of April, following which the main census process will commence. For the first time, the census will be conducted digitally, enabling citizens to log in to the official Census portal and upload their information conveniently.
Highlighting the significance of the exercise, officials noted that although the census is constitutionally conducted every ten years, this edition is being held after nearly 15 years, the last one having taken place in 2011. Ganjam District Collector V. Kirtivasan urged residents to cooperate fully and provide accurate and transparent information. He described the census as a mirror of the nation, stating that it not only counts individuals but also presents a comprehensive picture of each family’s social and economic status.
During the door-to-door survey, enumerators will visit every household in the district and collect detailed information. A total of 33 questions will be asked to the head of each family, covering aspects such as caste, gender, age, and other socio-economic conditions. Officials stressed that the data must be recorded accurately and without errors to ensure reliability.
Kalyan, who participated as the training officer, provided detailed guidance on conducting the census efficiently. It was informed that following the state-level training of master trainers, district-level officers will undergo further orientation in the coming days.
Additional District Magistrates Pramod Kumar Prusti, Devadutta Panda, and Sunil Kumar Kerketta, Chatrapur Sub-Divisional Magistrate Shubhashish Baral, Bhanjanagar Sub-Divisional Magistrate Uma Shankar Behera, along with all field-level officers, attended the training session. All Additional District Magistrates, Tahsildars, and Executive Officers of the district are set to participate in the upcoming state-level training programme.
